Once Upon a Time: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves

“Open sesame!” A cave of treasures opens to those who know the words. Ali Baba overhears them, enters the cave, takes gold, and lives well. His brother learns the password but forgets the exit word. He’s trapped inside. The thieves find him and cut him into pieces.

Information is life or death in this story. Knowing the right words gets you in. Forgetting them traps you. And the one who controls the words, the thieves, controls everything.

This is information control. They tell you partial truths. They tell different stories to different people. They “forget” to mention things until after they matter. You’re always one step behind, always missing the password, always trapped inside situations you’d have avoided if you’d known what they knew.

The Decoder: If you’re consistently the last to know, that’s not coincidence, it’s strategy.

The Pattern: Controlling what you know

• Giving you incomplete information
• Telling different stories to different people
• “I didn’t think you needed to know.”
• Revealing information strategically to manipulate outcomes
• Hoarding information as power

What the Pattern Usually Does: Knowledge is power, and they’re hoarding it. By controlling what you know, they control your ability to make informed decisions.

How It Hooks You: You make decisions based on incomplete information. You feel confused about situations you should understand. You trust their version because it’s the only one you have.

Your Power Move: Trust patterns over explanations. If information consistently comes late or incomplete, that’s the pattern. Verify independently when possible.
